The Wilberforce University men's basketball team returns home for a non-conference meeting with Lourdes University.
SERIES HISTORY: Wilberforce is 0-5 against the Gray Wolves, including a a 74-60 home loss last season.
LAST TIME OUT: The Bulldogs suffered their first loss of the season, falling at Shawnee State (Nov. 5), 85-72. Wilberforce fell behind early 26-5, and trailed by as much as 26 points, but fought back to pull to within 11 points at half.
Senior Jamir Hymes led the way with 14 points, while three players – senior Jesse Olverson, junior Daiquan Coach, and junior Germainn Marshall – all finished with 12 points.
Marshall led the way with six boards as Coach and Olverson finished with five rebounds each.
ABOUT LOURDES: The Gray Wolves opened the season with a pair of wins at the Grand Rapids Classic, beating Saint Xavier (Ill.), 85-80, and Wright State Lake, 99-78.
Derek Fairly is leading the team with 28.5 points per game and 10 assists, while coming second with 6.0 rebounds. Two other players – Joe Francis (19.5 ppg) and Desan Doucet (11.5 ppg) - are also scoring in double figures.
EFFICIENCY: Senior Jesse Olverson is leading the HBCUAC, shooting 85.7 percent from the floor. He is one of four Bulldogs scoring in double digits with 10.0 points per game. Over the past two games, Olverson has scored 26 points, while shooting 11-of-12 from the floor. He is also 6-of-6 from the foul line.
AGENT 0: Junior transfer Daiquan Coach burst onto the season with a 29-point effort in the season-opening victory over Marian. He has scored in double figures in every game this season and leads the team with 17.0 points per game.
BACKCOURT DUO: The backcourt of Eduardo Diaz and Jamir Hymes are second and third, respectively, in scoring. Diaz scored a season-high 25 points in the win over Bryant and Stratton and is second on the team with 17.0 points, while Hymes has reached double figures in all three games – averaging 12.7 points.
WINDOW CLEANER: Senior Jaiden Wynn, who missed the last game against Shawnee State, leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per game. Olverson is second on the team with 4.7 rebounds and leads the team with five blocks.
